About

The Donnie Shell Scholarship Foundation was created by Donnie and Paulette Shell to fill in the financial gap for students attending South Carolina State University.  Many of the students who attend SCSU come from rural areas of the State of South Carolina and they don’t have the financial means to afford their college tuition.

Shell, the foundation’s chairman, was one of these students many years ago. He identifies with how it feels to not be able to pay for a college tuition. He came from a family of nine brothers and sisters and his parents could not afford to pay to send him to college.  He was able to obtain an athletic scholarship to help fulfil his dreams of receiving a college degree.

The DSSF assists academically gifted, deserving students from diverse economic circumstances.  Many of these students do not have the financial means to attend college and are often denied the opportunity to develop their full potential.  To help alleviate these crippling financial obstacles, the DSSF partners with South Carolina State University to support the Presidential Promise Scholarship Program.

The Donnie Shell Scholarship Foundation is independently operated by its Board of Directors as a non-profit (501-c-3) organization.  All donations are tax deductible, as allowed by IRS guidelines.
